Kevin Zadai once asked the Lord, “What do You want me to tell people?”
Jesus replied, “Tell them they are doing better than they think they are.”
Do you feel like you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel? Do you have this vague sense that Jesus is disappointed in you?
Or maybe you’re at the lowest point in your life. Maybe you haven’t accomplished everything you were hoping to accomplish by this age, or it seems like nothing you try is working out.
Whatever you are dealing with today, let your faith rise up and take hold of these words: You’re doing better than you think you are.
The Jesus Report
I think the enemy is doing his best to discourage God’s people right now. Unfortunately, sometimes he even uses well-meaning friends and family to do it.
“Let me tell you what you need to be doing with your life!”
“You aren’t doing what you should be doing.”
“Why do you keep messing up? Haven’t you learned how to do this by now?”
It could be anything: doubt, discouragement, confusion, loss, trauma, etc. The enemy is doing everything he can to try to distract us from looking up at Jesus and relying on His strength.
But we are doing better than we think we are! God sees the situation differently than we do.
If you feel like a failure, understand that is what the enemy wants you to feel! That is NOT what Jesus wants you to feel. In fact, He is giving a better report of you and your life than you expect.
He Has Made You Ready
As we look around at the world and the different things that are happening—some good, many painful—it isn’t hard to see that God is doing something new. Life just doesn’t look the way it did before. This new thing of God is why the enemy is working so hard to keep us distracted.
Whatever changes God makes, we will be okay because He has prepared us for this season. He got us ready for it the way He got Esther ready, and we were born for such a time as this, just like she was (Est. 4:14). Instead of sitting down in fear, we can trust how the Lord has led us up until this moment.
He has not left us unprepared. We might feel unprepared; we might feel overwhelmed and uncertain, but we have been called and now is the time. We have the necessary ingredients to do what He has called us to do. We are able to step out in faith and minister to other people because He has made us ready.
You don’t need to fear—you are ready for what He has for you. You’re surrounded by a calm and steady love that wants to reassure you completely. Keep doing what you’re doing, because you’re doing so much better than you think!

Good word! Yes – He’s never worried, never concerned/stressed, never out of control. What a wonderful God/loving Father…. So utterly trustworthy no matter what….
He HAS made me ready. Oh my goodness thank you for this reminder.
Thanks, Marjorie, I needed that! When I first read your post I thought, this would be encouraging for my wife. Yesterday morning I finished reading John’s “Loving Jesus More”. I was getting discouraged as a dark night of the soul/spirit seemed to describe most of my life. As I read your post to my wife this morning it touched me deeply. Not all is dark.
Powerful words of encouragement which is so needed I’m the hearts of people!!
This message came at a very timely moment of feeling like a failure. God is so good to remind us of His love and to encourage us to keep up the good work! Thank you!! ❤️ Hanna
